Apple Pie

This is the first pie I ever made. It’s my mom’s apple pie. It is quite honestly the best apple pie anywhere!   I prefer to use the MacIntosh or Spy variety of apples for my pies. They have the perfect flavor for pies, and they hold up wonderfully!

IMG_0285I’m really sort of shocked that in four years of blogging (yes it’s been four years already!) I have never shared this recipe. This Apple Pie recipe is THE recipe.  It’s the one. It’s the real deal. It is my pride and joy.  There is nothing better.  If I were a bettin’ girl I’d put it all on this pie.

I could sit here and go on and on about how flaky the crust is, how deliciously sweet/tart,  buttery and perfectly spiced this pie is….BUT WHY.  What more is there to be written about apple pie?  What more I say!  You have to see it to believe it.  So I’m going to give you a feast for your eyes……

IMG_0264One secret to a great apple pie is to never be afraid to pile the fruit high.  Even higher than this if you dare!

Now go make your own!  Please don’t be afraid to make your own crust.  The crust really does make a difference when making pie, sweet or savory.  You’re welcome.

I honestly wish with all my heart that I could make each and every one of you this pie.  Maybe someday if my cookbook dream comes true I’ll serve it up at my book signing party!

Until then….make your own! 😉

    Would you be surprised to hear that I have never, in my life, made a pie? I remember my mom spending all day baking an apple pie for my grandpa and he took one bite and said “it’s alright”. Oh it scares me so! Maybe I’ll have to get over it and give it a try with this one 🙂

    So crazy, I stumbled across this blog while looking for good food blogs and I grew up with your sister and spent alot of time at your house. I remember eating so many of these recipes. Your family used to let me tag along all over to many family functions and feed me all the time. And I remember this pie and yes, it is one of the best. I still put Dorito’s on my PB&J, Catalina Dressing on my rice…all because of Carla! I am so excited I found this!!!

    An Old friend xo :

    To My Beautiful, Faithful Friend Sheila;

    So many times I have made apple this and apple that but never ever a traditional, yummy apple pie! That all changed the day my father called after my mom’s recent passing to ask could he place an order from my kitchen for an apple pie! I was at work thinking, Sheila, I am crossing my fingers hoping you could help … And there you were, my angel, sharing as you always do, just blogging away! Tonight, I am again filling Dad’s weekly pie order! Let me just say Dad is one picky pie papa! Kudos, old friend, and Thank You for always being you! With Love and Fond Memories, Forever Grateful, Linda xo
