Easy Munchie Ranch Oyster Cracker Recipe

These munchie ranch oyster crackers are so simple, so nostalgic, and so wildly addicting that I can never make just one batch. They come together quickly with just a few ingredients, making them the perfect easy munchie everyone grabs by the handful.

Do you like to nibble?  I have a nibbler in my house.  Her name is Cece.  If I let her she would never eat a whole meal, she would just graze morning, noon, and night.  She’s a salty snack lover, popcorn, fishy crackers, pretzels. I find them all over my house in little cups and bowls.  This winter one of the volleyball moms brought a bag of these crackers to a tournament.  I think Cece ate nearly the whole bag.  I couldn’t keep her out of it.  “Mom you NEED to get the recipe from Miss Christine for that yummy cracker stuff!”  she pestered.  Finally I remembered to ask Christine for the recipe, she chuckled.   Well it’s really hard, she said,  I’ll write it down for you.  Like the sweetheart that she is, she did write it down and remembered it the next day.  “We call it Munchies.”  she said. So that’s why we call these seasoned oyster crackers munchies. My mom also made a variation of this snack with butter and various seasonings. She also would add mini pretzels to the mix. She would whip them up for famly gatherings or long road trips. This recipe uses olive oil and comes together so easy. You might as well plan on making a double batch.

There’s my muncher sneaking crackers off the sheet hot out of the oven!!

  • oyster crackers or mini saltines
  • ranch seasoning mix
  • dill weed
  • garlic powder
  • olive oil

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.

In a small bowl combine the olive oil, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, and dill weed. Whisk this together.

Pour oyster crackers into a large bowl and pour the seasoning mix over the crackers, as you drizzle mix the crackers with a spatula to ensure all the crackers get evenly coated with the ranch seasoning mix.

Pour out the coated crackers onto a large baking sheet. Spread out in a single layer. Some of the crackers can overlap but try to get an even layer. Place crackers in your preheated oven, baking time is 15 minutes!  Let cool and store in an airtight Zip-loc bag.

  • Butter – If you prefer you can swap the olive oil out for melted butter. Use 1 stick or 1/2 cup melted butter.
  • Seasonings – This recipe is so easy to customize. I have, for the sake of halitosis, reduced the amount of garlic powder, but you could add more if you prefer. Lemon pepper, cayenne pepper, fresh ground black pepper, add all the peppers if you like. Swap out the ranch and dill for taco seasoning.
  • Add Ins – My mom used to add mini pretzels to her munchie cracker mix. You could add popped popcorn as well.
  • Storage – After your ranch crackers cool, store them in an airtight container like a zip-loc zipper bag or a mason jars work really well and it look cute on your counter!

Ingredients
  

  • 24 ounces oyster crackers any brand will do
  • 3/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 package Hidden Valley Ranch Mix 3 tablespoons or 1 ounce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried dill

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
  • Pour crackers in to a large bowl. In a small bowl whisk together olive oil, ranch mix, garlic powder, and dill. Drizzle slowly over crackers while stirring making sure to coat all the crackers evenly. Pour crackers onto a baking sheets and bake for 15 minutes in a 200 degree oven.
  • Remove from oven after 15 minutes. Allow to cool and store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

  1. I do a similar recipe but add to pretzels, and don’t bake…just stir and stir and stir. (2 lbs. Of pretzels…Oh, and a huge bowl!)

  2. I make this stuff all the time. What’s really delicious is to do this with those little Ritz crackers with cheese in the middle. Follow the recipe as usual, just throw a box of those crackers in too. They’re yummy!

  3. These are so good–I just made a half recipe. I tried a similar recipe that included lemon pepper a few years ago, and your recipe is better.

  4. Yes, my little one (2 and a half) is like that. She will only eat three bites of any meal, then complain for hours that she’s hungry. I set Club crackers out on the table as a snack yesterday, then found out later that she put a whole sleeve of them in her Fisher Price schoolhouse and snacked on them as she roamed around the house, completely fooling me. (We also have a food-in-the-kitchen-only rule.) What a stinker! These crackers look super yummy.

  6. I’ve got a similar recipe that I make, but I like the idea of the dill in this one. Definitely need to try it next time.
