Bobby Flays Steak Sauce
recipe update April 2025
This steak sauce has a depth of flavor that is much greater than the sum of its ingredients. It is tangy and slightly sweet, and the horseradish gives it a kick. I am telling you, I love this sauce on all things grilled.
Why I love this sauce so much
We were lucky enough to enjoy a weekend with good friends at their home on Lake Michigan. We all pitched in and shared in the cooking. You can see the menu for the meal I shared in making with Big D. We drew the Friday night dinner straw, which was perfect because we could get our cooking done and have the rest of the weekend to relax. A friend pointed me to this recipe in Bobby’s Grill It cookbook! I figured that this weekend would be a good time to try it out.
Here’s what we served:
Grilled Beef Tenderloin with Bar Americain Steak Sauce
Roasted Vegetables done on the grill
Steamed Green Beans
Red Wine Mushrooms
Heirloom Tomato Salad with homemade Blue Cheese Dressing
bread from farmers market
Big D’s Berry Cobbler
My homemade Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
It was pretty incredible. I heard murmurings of 5-star, a few of the best meals ever, lots of moans, and yummy noises. I have served a similar meal many times. When it comes to hosting big meals, the simpler, the better. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. Don’t go overboard. It’s about the people at the table, not the food. (Except if you don’t fix good food, the people might not return!)

How to make this steak sauce
Honestly, nothing could be easier than making Bobby Flays Steak Sauce. Gather your ingredients, a few measuring cups and spoons, and a small bowl that doubles as an airtight container. Mix the ingredients together in the bowl. Whisk ingredients together until smooth. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes up to 24 hours before serving.
Throw away your BBQ sauce because this bobby-que sauce is taking its place. This sauce is also good on chicken and pork. You can find the recipe for the rub here. I love using it on pork chops.
That’s me and my guy circa 2011! I hope you give this steak sauce a try. Please take a moment to rate it in the recipe card below. Share on your social media and put a big PIN in it on your grilling board.
Cheers! XO Sheila

That lake is B-I-G and I love the pictures of you with your friends and your honey.
I’m going to try some of those red wine mushrooms the next time I make steak they look delicious and I can NOT eat one more piece of corn on the cob!
I like to cook anything my friends will like and can eat but I always tell them “Hope for the best” when it comes to dinner at my house! At least we have lovely gardens and a nice pool Is anyone else getting old enough that so many of your friends have special diets (no sugar, no gluten, no nuts) that it’s just easier to go to a restaurant????
I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer – mine will be spent listening to the chorus of hammers as we replace our siding/ insulation and windows. God Bless Big Daddy.
Melissa, We have not overdone it on the corn on the cop yet. I love “corn on the crab” as my littlest used to call it ; )
Have not had the friends with dietary needs issue yet, lots of kids with peanut and gluten allergies though….makes me super nervous! Hang in there with the construction that can wear on a gal. Thanks for stopping by. xoxo, Sheila
Sheila, Did you start/ finish Miss Peregrine’s yet? I read it on vacation, just after my daughter finished it. It was a great read!
I did read it, loved it, and it made for a very interesting book club discussion that I still need to write a post on.
Very cute picture of you and your man! Thanks for the recipe – I love anything with horseradish, too. The weekend sounds like it was lots of fun….wish we lived closer!!
