This simple homemade apple pie is a classic double-crust pie made with fresh apples, light brown sugar, cinnamon, butter, and a flaky homemade pie crust. There’s no cooking the apples first and no fussy techniques—just an old-fashioned apple pie that’s easy to make and perfect served warm with vanilla ice cream.
6-8Applespeel, core, and slice(8 cups of apples slices)
1/2cupbrown sugar
3tbspall purpose flour
1/2tspsalt
2tspground Cinnamon
1/8tspnutmeg
3tbspbutter
2Pie Crusts
1tbspmilk
1tbspturbinado sugar regular granulated sugar works too
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Peel, core, and slice apples into a large bowl, add brown sugar, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and a dash of nutmeg (more if you like). Toss apple slices in this mixture until all apples are coated.
Roll out first pie crust and lay it in the bottom of the pie plate. Fill with apple mixture.
Cut butter into chunks and place evenly over the top of apples.
Roll out second pie crust, cut a few small slits in the middle of the crust, allowing for steam to release from pie. Lay second crust over the top and crimp the edges, rolling the dough inwards.
optional: brush pie crust with milk and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
Place pie on a baking sheet and bake for 75 minutes at 375 degrees. Remove and allow to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
I place pie on a baking sheet to keep my oven clean, because sometimes the juices from the pie will bubble out.
If pie seems to be getting too brown and pie is not done baking cover with a tented piece of aluminum foil.
My favorite apples for apple pie are Norther Spys, Granny Smith or, Ida Reds.
