Buttermilk Biscuits

Tender, flaky buttery biscuits. You will never crack a tube of store bought biscuits after making this recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose Flour
  • 3 Tblsp Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/3 cup Shortening or Butter
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Tblsp Butter for greasing dish

Instructions
 

preheat oven to 375°, lightly butter 9x13 baking dish or baking sheet.

  • Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl.
  • Cut shortening/butter in with a pastry cutter, until there are no large lumps.
  • Whisk buttermilk and egg together in separate bowl.
  • Make a well in the middle of flour mixture, pour in wet ingredients. Gently combine with a fork or spatula. Do not over mix. Dump out onto a well floured surface, pat dough into a round 1/2-3/4 inch thick.
  • Using a 2 inch round cookie cutter or a small juice cup, but 12 biscuits and place in buttered pan. Bake at 375° for 15-20 minutes.
