CHILI COOK OFF Week ~ Smoky Turkey Verde Chili & Giveaway

Nothing brings people together like a big pot of chili.  Chili is meant to be shared.  Who makes a pot of chili for themselves?  No one that’s who! Chili seems to cross all culinary borders, even the most timid cooks have their own chili recipe!

Ribbet collageQuite a few years back Ken and I started a Fall tradition of hosting a Chili Cook-Off at our house with a group of friends.

IMG_6300Having everyone over and tasting the different chilis everyone came up with year after  year was the highlight of our Fall!  Over the years the cook-off has transitioned from being at our home to our church, and anyone is welcome, so if you’re in the area cook up your signature chili recipe and come visit the LifeChurch Chili Cook Off! (It’s the last Sunday of October.)

chilicookoff2I have a story or two from the  years we hosted, we had some good times!!  I will share one for sure. I have been given permission to share a few prize-winning chili recipes from our years of chili cook-offs, so make sure your printer ink is full because you are gonna wanna print these babies off!

Every year my seestor cooks up a big pot of pre-thanksgiving chicken chili, its tradition!  It’s perfect because you do need to eat the day before Thanksgiving, but who wants to make a whole big meal and chili is way better than take out pizza!  Chili is actually the perfect holiday fare!  So what better way to start celebrating the holidays than with Chili Cook Off Week!!
DSC02440PI’m pretty confident the blogosphere is well stock with traditional holiday recipes so I thought it would be fun to change it up!!  I think my seestor is singing my praises!

And ya can’t do a Chili Cook Off with out prizes so I’ve got a week full of prizes as well!!

This isn’t an official prize winner, but it’s easy and my family loves it!  Feel free to play with the level of heat.  If you prefer your chili spicier add in more chili powder;  if you have a tender palate then cut down on the chili powder.  The ancho chili powder and smoked paprika work together to give this chili its rich smoky flavor!

Dig IN!!

  1. Ooooo, I do love me some chili!! I love the ground beef variety, as well as the white chicken chili when I make it at home. However, if I’m going to Bagger Dave’s, they have amazing turkey chili. Jalapeños and everything. Delish!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  2. I think I make the best chili. I follow I recipe I’ve had for over 25 years, I don’t even remember where I got it. It’s always delicious. I always make homemade cornbread to go with it. Fantastic!

  3. My favorite chili is also my own, but I have never used a recipe. I don’t eat meat, so it’s a veggie chili, and basically I just throw whatever vegetables I have into a pot with some tomato sauce and spices. I must do spices right, because even when I make a meat chili, everyone wants my “recipe” which once again, I don’t use.
I love chili. Maybe we’ll have some tonight.

  4. I really enjoy my 3-bean chili. It is gluten-free and vegetarian so everyone can enjoy it! That is always a good thing!

  5. My cheesy White Chicken Chili. It’s loved everywhere I take it. My niece won her office Chili Cook-off with my recipe this year.

  6. My favorite is my beanless chili with course ground beef and hot peppers that I grow. Tame it down with sour cream and cheese if you can’t take the heat.

  7. That cheesy chili looks amazing and I love the fact you can make it in a crockpot!
My favorite chili, I have to say, is my mom’s and it is super simple too… which might be what makes it so good. It has 2 kinds of beans, ground beef, corn, and topped off with cheese, sour cream, and pickled jalapenos it is spectacular!

  8. Karin Alferink makes a White Chicken Chili that I love! I have even won our office chili cook-off twice, using her recipe!

  9. My next door neighbor when we were stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi MS made the best Chili! We are not stationed together anymore; but I’m still making her Chili where I’m now stationed in Japan. I’m sure she is still making it where she is stationed in England. And ive even passed on her recipe to my family in Michigan and it is their go-to Chili recipe too!

  10. I actually like my chili best. I am from Texas so mine is pretty spicy & meaty and made without beans. Beans is just a filler. (Well in my humble opinion.) Family & friends love it.

      1. We had 9 different chili recipes, and we asked everyone else to bring something to add to the chili(cheese, sour cream, corn chips…) and a dessert. It was a big success!

  11. I actually love my creamy white chicken chili. It’s one if the few things that I can make that my ENTIRE family will eat!

  12. Our family love my white chicken chili, it has even won our church’s chili cook off a couple of years ago. I change it up periodically and Addam, our oldest son, tells me to leave it alone:) love that boy!!

  13. My momma makes my favorite chilli!! I don’t know what’s in it because I try not to replicate her recipes, as mine never taste as good as moms.
