Meals 4 Sharing Fridays: Monster Cookies

TGIF!!! It’s that time again. Time to link up the recipes that you love to share!

It’s garage sale season around these parts everyone seems to be having a garage sale. I on the other hand, Ā let my husband talk me into “just giving it all away”.

(me) But we have alot of stuff Ā that I could sell….
(husband) Do you really think you would make enough money to make it worth your time?
(me) Maybe….I don’t know.
(husband) We could give it away, get the deduction, you could spend your time doing something more productive, (ie. yard work) and we could come out ahead. Ā All the time it takes to organize a garage sale is not time well spent.
(me) sure…grumble rumble ribble rabble, why do you have to be so practical?{under my breath}

Having a garage sale is always about getting money in my sweaty patties. Because I don’t work, I don’t ever have my own money. So when I can snag a buck or two by selling some junk I get all giddy. Last Spring I went nuts with Craigs List, just about sold my first born.

So what does all this have to do with Monster Cookies? Hmmm that’s a good question…JK.

We live just outside of a neighborhood called Del-mar Farms, have you heard of it? Ā Every year when they do their garage sale people come from far and wide. Ā One of the reasons it’s so popular is that this neighborhood has fertile waters, there are like 20 sets of multiples in 1 square mile or something crazy. Ā At one time Good Morning America actually came to town to film the phenomenon. Ā So this means lots of kids cloths, and kids stuff! Ā It’s like a circus, you can hardly drive through the neighborhood.

This year our youth group decided to do a snack sale during the busiest selling time, to raise money for CHIC, a youth conference the high schoolers are going to. Several of us moms made goodies, and the kids manned the table. Ā I made Monster Cookies and bags of Puppy Chow. Ā They made over $300! Not too shabby.

My gal Demetria a.k.a. Big D, made these cookies one year when we were vacationing together, my kids went ga-ga for them, I have been making them ever since. Ā Thanks Big D for the O so popular Monster Cookie recipe!

Monster Cookies
Why are they called monster cookies? I think it’s because Cookie Monster would have freaked out for these KOOOkies! “nom nom nom me like KoooKees”, and well they are monstrously delicious!

2 sticks Butter
1 1/2 cups Peanut Butter (creamy or crunchy)
1 cup Brown Sugar
1 cup Sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla
5 cups Old Fashioned Oats
2 teaspoons Baking Soda
3 cups total M&M’s, Chocolate Chips, Butterscotch Chips (You can use all three or just one, feel free to add nuts, or any add ons you like.)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Cream together butter and peanut butter, add sugars mix for 3-5 minutes until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, then add vanilla. In a separate bowl measure out oatmeal and sprinkle baking soda over it. Gradually add oatmeal to butter/sugar mixture, mix until just combined. Remove bowl from mixer, fold in chocolate chips and add ons with a large rubber spatula. Scoop out large, 1/4 cup, portions of dough onto parchment lined baking sheets. Bake for 12-15 minutes in a 325 degree oven.

  1. My step-son is studying for college finals this week. I always like to send him a box of goodies to get him through. I made these yesterday and shipped them off to him. I’m expecting rave reviews when the package arrives. These were so good I had to get them out of the house as fast as possible. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Liane, That is very sweet. What a great idea. I hope he enjoys them. I know what you mean I have to get them in a bag asap and out of my site or I just keep snacking….or munching ; ) Sheila

I know at least 3 persons who would love to come with you to the garage sale at Del-mar Farms. The kids loved it and me too.

  4. Haha! My husband has the same feelings towards garage sales. I’ve been getting that urge to purge and it’s always hard to know what to do with the stuff.

  5. Hi Sheila,

    Those cookies look scrumptious!

I am so happy to finally have pulled myself together and have a recipe to share with you which I will add to your link-up.

Hope all is well. I am right with you…TGIF…I am so happy it’s Friday. This has been a long and busy week and it will be a delight for some wonderful family bonding time. Friday night around here can mean game night or movie night. These days we’re in a movie streak. We’re caught up on all the Iron Mans, Thor (Loved it!) and Captain America…and tonight we’ll be watching The Hulk movies to prepare for the new Avengers movie coming out next week. (Before I was married and had a son, I never thought words like I just said would be coming out of my mouth…LOL!!!)

    Have a great weekend!

    Love,
    Mary

    1. Mary,
Oh how I love movie nights I live for them. So nice that you can all agree on what to watch. With the girls and the boys and the age differences sometimes we have differing opinions on movies, or it’s just hard to fine one appropriate for all. Thanks so much for tweeting and linking up today!
      Have a great weekend yourself!
      loveya,
      Sheila

  6. These monster cookies LOOK delicious!! I just love those! So easy and makes a TON! LOVE the idea of a “snack” sale. I have a SERIOUS weakness for peanut butter cookies (as you can see from the cookie I just linked!) Funny, my plan was to share these PB Choco. Cookies on your blog today, then I saw what you posted, hope it is FINE that I “followed” your lead with the cookie “theme”….thanks for the opportunity to “link-up”!!
